what a way to start the week

This morning at 6:15, my husband was upstairs getting ready for work and I was in the kitchen unloading the dishwasher. All of the sudden I heard the words I dread, “Guinness just got sick.” I went running upstairs to see the cat on the floor, my husband washing his hands, the bath mat in the tub, and a duvet covered with illness. I won’t go into details, but he was very, very sick.

I stripped the bed, washed everything out in the tub, used the remaining Oxi-Clean, hauled everything downstairs, and have been doing laundry all. day. long. Have I mentioned how much fun it is to stuff a queen size, down comforter in a European size, washing machine? My dear boy rested all morning and seems to be feeling better.

I’m clueless as to what brings this on. This is the third time that he has been sick on the bed, always the day of or day after I’ve washed the bedding. The entire house has wood and tile floors, but Guinness prefers to get sick on our bed. I love him dearly, and wish I knew what was making him sick. His blood work is fine, his sterile, urine test showed nothing unusual. Guinness and Bella are indoor only cats, so he can’t be eating anything strange outside. We take our shoes off at the door as to not drag anything into the house. I clean the floors with vinegar and water so the cats aren’t exposed to harsh chemicals. I just don’t understand. What could have made my baby boy sick?

  1. Poor kittie! Can you cover your bed with something so when he does throw up it's easier to clean?

Maybe he doesn't want to see you get ready and leave for work? Just an idea.

  2. Poor Guinness. I wonder why he is still sick? Sending speedy recovery wishes to him. I was lucky to find and buy an American size washer here in Cairo, thank God!

  3. Poor Guinness...could it be that he had found something in the house that you don't know about that he's eating? i know, not likely but still... Much love, Fran

ps: I let you know about the photographer!!

  4. Aw poor Guinness- that's miserable all around. Do you think he's allergic to the washing powder? I hope you can get to the bottom of this mystery. Hope he's feeling better:)

  5. Guinness really is a mystery. He's now been seen by three vets, in addition to the vet that examined him prior to the adoption. He's only been sick three times on the bed, but it's heartbreaking to watch him suffer. I don't think it's the washing detergent because it's been changed a few times since we've had him, and I can't think of anything in the house that's bothering him. I'm basically home with them all day, so I know what they're up to. Ugh. I just want my baby kitty to be healthy.

Thanks for all of the get well wishes. He seems much better today :)

  7. Poor kitty. Maybe he's got a hairball that needs to break loose?

  8. I don't think it's a hairball as I haven't seen any evidence of hair in his vomit. Unfortunately we believe that it is something complex, possibly neuro related because of the ongoing issues with his back legs, the stumbling episodes, and confusion :( It usually doesn't last long, but we have got to find a diagnosis and treatment. I want my baby to be healthy.
